C44-9W

GE's C44-9w was first introduced in February of 1994. This locomotive is similar to the Dash 9 but uses earlier trucks which have an adhesion factor of 26-28 percent as opposed to the Dash 9's 35 percent. The prime mover in the locomotive is a 16 cylinder four stroke turbocharged diesel producing 4400 horsepower. Major purchasers included the Santa Fe, BNSF and CSX. C&NW acquired a couple of the original Santa Fe locomotives which have been named after some of the prominent cities on the C&NW. This locomotive is used during the Modern Era on the C&NW.

Our C44-9W models were originally created by Maple Leaf Tracks. Physics and lighting have been modified by Bill Prieger. Paint has been applied by Bob Artim.

SD40-2

The Electro Motive Division of GM introduced the SD40-2 in 1972 and it remains in production today. This locomotive is used during the Modern Era on the C&NW. The SD40-2 is equiped with a 3000 HP 645E3 prime mover. The fact that the SD38, SD40 and SD45 are mounted on the same frame accounts for the distinctive front and back porch platforms on the SD40-2. Only the SD40 and the SD45 have three large roof top fans.

Our SD40-2's are a highly modified version of the original model provided with MSTS by Microsoft. The original cabview is by Alex Hall. The locomotive has been reskinned and the cabview repainted for C&NW by Bob Artim. Physics have been modified by Roberts Rail Services. The Cascade & North Western logo & color scheme is by Mike "Voodude" Read.

GP38-2

The Electro Motive Division of GM introduced the GP38-2 in 1966. This locomotive came into production at a time that allows it's use in both the Transition and Modern Eras. The GP38-2 is equipped with a 2000 HP, 16 cylinder #645 prime mover. The primary difference between a GP28 and a GP38-2 is the prime mover. The GP28 is only equipped with a 1800 hp #567D1 prime mover. The different prime mover dictated that the GP38-2 be 3 feet longer than the GP28. External differences are slight and the most obvious is the use of 10 vertical handrail staunchions compared to 9 on the GP28.

Our GP-38-2's are based on an original model by Justin Cornell with assistance from Judd Spittler, Kelly Edison and Bob Boudin. The C&NW GP-38-2's have been repainted by Rick Foss and the Physics & Lighting modified by Bill Prieger. The Cascade & North Western logo is by Mike "Voodude" Read.
